The Cat Has Found the Red. The Red Has Accepted the Cat. The Rest of the Room Can Wait.

On a ground of warm cream — the specific off-white of fine Japanese printmaking paper, of rooms that have been arranged with patience and kept with care — a white cat sleeps on a field of deep burgundy. The burgundy is soft and warm and occupies the lower third of the canvas with the quiet authority of something that is simply the right color in the right place. The cat is white in the way that only white cats are white: not blank, not absent, but present in every whisker and the specific curve of a front paw extended in sleep. The eyes are closed. The expression, to the extent that sleeping has an expression, is one of complete resolution. The composition is executed in the restrained, highly detailed style of contemporary Japanese minimalist painting — the tradition of Endre Penovac’s ink cats, of ukiyo-e negative space, of paintings that understand that what is left out is as deliberate as what remains. The cream ground is not empty. It is considered. The red is not a background. It is a decision. The cat is not a subject. It is the whole point.

Why You'll Love It

• The finest Japandi minimalist cat canvas available — white cat, burgundy field, cream ground, complete compositional resolution — the painting has the internal stillness of the best Japanese minimalist work and the specific warmth of a cat that has found the exact right place to sleep and settled in permanently; the two-tone palette is sophisticated enough for any serious interior and warm enough for any space that wants to feel like a home
• Japanese minimalist printmaking tradition meets contemporary cat art at the highest level — fine-line whisker detail, soft cat silhouette against cream ground, burgundy color field with the weight of a deliberate compositional choice; the technique gives the painting the visual quiet of the best Japandi interiors and the warmth of an animal that has chosen your space as its own
• Japandi, minimalist, neutral eclectic, and warm Scandinavian interiors all claim this piece and all of them are correct — the cream-and-burgundy palette disappears into any warm neutral wall while the cat anchors the composition; this is the painting that makes a carefully arranged room feel complete without competing with anything else in it
• Vertical format — bedroom focal point, living room statement, reading nook essential — the generous cream upper field gives the eye room to rest before arriving at the cat; the composition breathes in the way of paintings that have been designed to be lived with rather than simply looked at
• HD archival printing on artist-grade canvas — warm cream ground, deep burgundy field, and white cat whisker and fur detail reproduced with fine-line fidelity and fade-resistant, gallery-quality warmth at every size
• Natural wood float frame available — ready to hang straight out of the box, no extra hardware needed
• 9 sizes available — from 8x12" nightstand accent to 34x51" bedroom statement wall
• Made & shipped in the USA — printed on demand, crafted with care

"The cat had considered several locations before choosing this one. The red was warm. The cream was quiet. The light came from the right direction at the right time of day. These things matter to a cat that takes its sleep seriously. The cat takes its sleep seriously. The cat takes everything seriously. The sleep is simply the most visible form of this."
