He Sat on the Steps. Something in the Light Asked a Question. He Is Still Thinking About It.

The garden is all soft green and warm gold — sunlight filtering through leaves that are still deciding which direction to grow, terracotta pots quietly doing their thing in the background. On the stone steps, a black dog with wide, slightly startled eyes and a red collar has stopped to consider something overhead. He is not alarmed. He is not in a hurry. He is simply in that particular dog state of being fully present in a moment that doesn't require anything from him except attention. Painted in loose, luminous watercolor with the gentle imprecision of a beloved illustration, this piece has the warmth of a summer afternoon and the quiet humor of a companion who finds everything worth looking at.
